From February 5 to 18 Lake Country Detachment responded to 89 calls for service. Some of the highlights from those calls are as follows.
File 2024-6524
February 5 a member of the public called police to report they had come across a single vehicle collision on Bottom Wood Lake Rd near Mc Carthy Rd. A officer attended and found a pick-up truck had slid in the snow and struck a hydro pole. The male driver was located near by waiting for police. After a brief interaction officers suspected the driver’s ability may be affected by alcohol, that he had been driving within the previous 3 hours and demanded he provide a breath sample. The driver provided two breath samples into a roadside screening device and both were found to be fail. A fail reading indicates a blood alcohol concentration which is higher than the legal limit. The driver was issued a 90 day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days as an alternative to criminal charges. This was a very costly experience for this driver and fortunately no one was injured as a result of his decision to drive under the influence.
File 2024-6557
February 7 while on patrol on Woodsdale Rd an officer pulled over a vehicle for a motor vehicle infraction. It was found the male driver and female passenger were both breaching conditions of their release by being with each other. The female passenger was also breaching a court-imposed curfew. Both were arrested and transported to police cells to attend court. After attending court both were released with a new court dates and charges.
File 2024-6735
February 7 while on patrol an officer observed a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner. The vehicle was pulled over on Bottom Wood Lake Rd. The officer suspected the driver was under the influence of alcohol and read a breath demand to ensure the drivers’ sobriety. The driver refused to provide a breath sample even after he was warned that a refusal would carry the same punishment as if he blew a fail. He was arrested for refusing to provide a breath sample and was released a short time later as the officer elected to proceed by way of Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP). The driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
File 2024-6888
February 8 an off-duty officer was following a vehicle south bound on Hwy 97 that was being operated in an erratic manner leading the officer to suspect the driver may be impaired. The vehicle was pulled over by the off-duty member and a Lake Country officer attended to assist. The Lake Country officer also suspected the driver may be impaired and read a breath demand to the driver. A sample of breath was obtained roadside and found to be a Warn. This indicates a drivers’ blood alcohol concentration is below the legal limit however within the range for a provincial sanction. The driver was issued a three-day driving prohibition, a violation ticket for fail to stop for a red light and his sober parent attended drove his vehicle home.
File 2024-7634
February 12 a liquor store located in the 9800 block of Hwy 97 reported a male and female involved in shoplifting a bottle of liquor. Officers attended watching the surveillance video. It is clear the two are working together to complete the theft. The male is also breaching conditions of his release by being in the company of the female. Both are well known to police. File is being investigated and will be submitted to BC Prosecution Service for charge consideration.
