Week in review January 22 to 28

From January 22 to 28 Lake Country Detachment responded to 43 calls for service. Some of the highlights from those calls are as follows.

File 2024-4718

January 27 A member of the public was following a car on Hwy 97 and they could smell burnt Cannabis and saw smoke coming from the car. At times the car would fill up with smoke before the windows were opened. Police were called as there were obvious concerns of driving while impaired by drug. The vehicle was stopped on Hwy 97 near Pelmewash Rd and the officer could smell burnt Cannabis and the car was full of smoke. The driver was displaying signs of impairment from recent Cannabis consumption. The driver was issued a 24 hour driving prohibition, a violation ticket for operating a vehicle with cannabis in it and the car was impounded. Much like impaired driving and having liquor in a vehicle there are certain rules pertaining to possession and consumption of Cannabis in a vehicle. 

File 2024-4739

January 27 An officer observed a vehicle parked at a local liquor store in the 9500 block of Main St. that had previous reports the driver may be impaired. As the officer approached the vehicle the driver attempted to walk away however was stopped. The driver was displaying signs of impairment and provided breath samples to a roadside screening device. Both samples of breath were a fail, indicating the driver’s blood alcohol content was over .08 mg%, legal limit. As a result, the car was impounded for 30 days and the driver prohibited from driving for 90 days. Lake Country RCMP wish to thank the public for their concern and reporting this impaired driver. 

File 2024-4834

January 28 Lake Country and Kelowna RCMP were investigating several complaints of a female slumped over the steering wheel of her car. This started near the airport on Hwy 97 and ended on Kel Vern Rd. Officers found a female driver unconscious, her vehicle running with evidence of recent drug consumption visible on the seats and her lap. The vehicle was turned off and the driver checked to ensure there was not a medical emergency. There was no emergency and it was apparent she was under the influence of illicit drugs. She was issued a 24-hour suspension and the vehicle was impounded. Further checks found this individual also had warrants for her arrest. She was transported to cells and appeared in court to answer for the warrants. Again, we can not thank the public enough for reporting this incident. 

File 2024-4904

January 28 While on patrol on Hwy 97 near Glenmore Rd a motorcycle was observed with a hand-written cardboard license plate. Of course, the officer had to stop this individual and enquire about the license plate. The driver was found to be prohibited from driving and was arrested for that offence. The male was issued violation tickets, the bike was impounded for 7 days and he was released with a court date to explain his actions to a judge.
