File # 2023-40889

A man is in custody this morning after allegedly committing a string of mischiefs that had Kamloops Mounties chasing a trail of smashed windows throughout Sahali overnight.

Just after 1:00 a.m. on November 17, 2023 frontline Kamloops RCMP officers were called to a report of a glass break alarm at a pharmacy in the 700-block of McGill Road. When officers arrived, they located a large hole in the window of the business, but no evidence the suspect had gotten inside.

Less than ten minutes later, RCMP responded to a second glass break alarm at a business in the same block. The suspect fled prior to police locating them. While searching for suspect, an officer discovered a third business window had been vandalized.

Throughout the rest of the morning we continued to receive reports of business windows/doors being smashed and two vehicle windows being damaged near the Sahali Shopping District, states S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet of the Kamloops RCMP. The suspect evaded capture until just before 6:00 a.m.

With assistance from a RCMP police dog and a witness, officers located and arrested the 38-year-old man in the 1300-block of Summit Drive. The man, who is new to Kamloops, is expected to appear in court later today.

In total, RCMP received 11 similar reports of mischief on Columbia Street, Springhill Crescent, McGill Road and Arrowstone, Notre Dame, Summit and Dalhousie Drives between 1:00 and 6:00 a.m., states S/Sgt. Shoihet. We are asking anyone who was a witness or has video surveillance to call the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3600 and cite file 2023-40889.
