Cache of stolen Lego and Jellycat toys among items recovered from residence in Steveston

Richmond RCMP Property Crime Unit seized over 1,000 allegedly stolen items during the execution of search warrant on residence in Steveston.

On February 29, 2024, Richmond RCMP Property Crime Unit (PCU) executed a search warrant at a residence located in Steveston which resulted in the recovery of over 1,000 alleged stolen items valued at over $150, 000 dollars. The majority of the items seized comprised of new toys and fashion apparel.

Richmond RCMP PCU initiated their investigation after receiving tips from the public regarding the potential sale of stolen items advertised online on popular Marketplace listings.

There are many enthusiasts from both the Lego and Jellycat communities that are guided by ethical and lawful guidelines. We wish to thank those enthusiasts as well as the other concerned members of the community who assisted us in this investigation, says Sergeant Russel Yugai, the NCO In-Charge of Richmond RCMP Serious Crime Support Section. This investigation sheds light on some dark corners of the retail theft sector – including the popularity and the resale value of such items and where such items end up.
