For week of May 30 to June 5, 2023

2023-2505 / 2508 / 2590 – Inactive insurance, no driver’s license and speeding

While making proactive patrols, Sea to Sky Whistler RCMP members encountered a number of drivers travelling without valid insurance and, in one case, without a driver’s license. The members were drawn to these vehicles due to driving behaviours, which included speeding and unsafe passing. In each of these investigations, written warnings and violation tickets were issued.

2023-2539 / 2575 – Too much punch!

In the early morning hours of May 31 and June 2, 2023 Sea to Sky Whistler Members were called to reports of grossly intoxicated individuals in Whistler Village. In all cases, these individuals were arrested and provided with an accommodation, for the remainder of their evening, to prevent any further offences from being committed.

2023-2605 – Hot dog season returns

On June 4, 2023 Sea to Sky Whistler Members were alerted to a dog left in a parked vehicle. The temperature inside the vehicle was determined to be approximately 38 degrees. The hot dog’s owner was provided with both a by-law ticket warning for insufficient ventilation and education.

2023-2580 – Lions, tigers, bears, oh my!

Well, just bears. On June 3, 2023 an approximately 4-5 year old female grizzly bear was located frolicking on the Fairmont Golf Course. Sea to Sky Whistler RCMP assisted the BC Conservation Service with maintaining public safety while the bear was safely relocated to a more bear appropriate location.

2023-2511 / 2512 – Stop signs mean stop

On May 31 and June 5, 2023 Sea to Sky Whistler members were advised of three separate vehicles that opted not to stop while a school bus had its flashing red lights and stop sign engaged. An attentive individual caught the license plates of the vehicles. Violation tickets and follow-ups are pending to the registered owners of those vehicles.

S2S Whistler RCMP would like to remind motorists that stopping for a school bus, while it has its stop sign displayed, is not an option! It is the law, and failing to comply comes with a penalty. Please respect the safety of the youth who are walking to and from the buses to ensure they arrive at their destination safely.

2023-2514 / 2587 / 2600 / 2612 – Traffic collisions

Sea to Sky Whistler and Pemberton members attended at a number of collisions reported over the past week. In most incidents, only minor damage was sustained to the vehicles and no major injury was reported. In one incident on June 5, 2023, a report of a collision was received near Roland’s Pub. The driver of the offending vehicle did not stick around to make a police report. If anyone witnessed the hit and run, please contact the Sea to Sky Whistler detachment and quote file 2023-2612.

2023-2591 / 2592 / 2593 – Impaired driving investigations

Sea to Sky Whistler RCMP members conducted a number of impaired driving investigations. These investigations were primarily a result of proactive patrols conducted by Members and, in each investigation, the driver was issued an immediate roadside driving prohibition / suspension.

Police ask anyone with any information regarding the above files to contact the Whistler RCMP at 604-932-3044, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or go to the website www.solvecrime.ca
