Police seek information following unprovoked assault

Coquitlam RCMP is investigating an unprovoked assault that has left an 85-year-old man with serious injuries and is asking anyone with information to contact police.

On Thursday, May 18, 2023 Police were advised of an assault that took place at Pioneer Park located at 1428 Collins Road in Coquitlam.

Around 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2023, an 85-year-old man was walking alone in Pioneer Park in Coquitlam when he was approached from behind by an unknown man walking two leashed dogs. The suspect man dropped the leashes and the dogs ran towards the victim. The victim attempted to distance himself with his walking-stick from the dogs, when the suspect ran towards the victim and punched him in the face.

The victim suffered serious injuries and received assistance by two unidentified witnesses.

This incident is very concerning and we are appealing to the witnesses to contact our investigators to provide further information, said Corporal Alexa Hodgins of the Coquitlam RCMP. We want to thank these witnesses for providing assistance to the victim following this unprovoked assault.

The suspect left the area on foot with their dogs.

The suspect can be described as:

• Dark skinned male
• 5’5 tall
• Strong build

The suspect was walking one white and one golden-orange dog at the time.

Victim services is engaged.

We are asking anyone who may have additional information to contact our investigators, said Corporal Alexa Hodgins. We are looking for additional witnesses and video from Saturday, March 18, 2023 between 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at or around Pioneer Park in Coquitlam to contact the Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550.
