Shortly before 11 pm on April 28, an officer on patrol came across a car that had just crashed into a streetlight pole at the corner of Wren Street and Lougheed Highway. The vehicle was smoking and the driver was unconscious. The officer and some helpful bystanders worked together to pull the driver out of the car, and CPR was started as the driver did not appear to be breathing. Paramedics and the fire department attended and were able to revive the man. He was transported to hospital for further assessment. The man’s symptoms and evidence inside the vehicle indicated that he had been using drugs, and he was later arrested for impaired driving.

Around 2 am on April 30, police received a report that a young man had been racing his black Dodge Charger up and down Cherry Avenue at a high rate of speed before he lost control and crashed into a fence. An officer located the driver with his vehicle and observed clear signs of impairment by liquor. He failed two roadside screening tests and was issued a 90-day driving prohibition, as well as a 30-day vehicle impound. He also received multiple tickets, including one for driving with liquor in his system while being an N driver.

Overnight on April 23-24, a white Ford F-350 and a trailer were stolen from a residence on Whidden Avenue. The trailer was found dumped later that morning, but the truck was no longer attached. Another report later that day revealed that after it was stolen, the truck was subsequently used in a break and enter at a business on 1st Avenue, where a bucket for a skid steer loader was stolen. The truck and bucket remain outstanding.

Mission RCMP were requested to check on a senior citizen who lives by himself, after his friend could not reach him by phone and became concerned that he might need help. Officers attended the man’s residence and confirmed he was okay, but due to mobility issues he had not been able to go into town to get important medications. He was also in the middle of switching between home phone providers, and did not have a working phone. Officers took the man to get his medication, and helped to arrange a service visit by a phone technician, so his friends and family could keep in touch with him. Police regularly receive requests to check on people who are elderly or may have medical issues, when family, friends or neighbours can’t reach them, and the public is encouraged to call as soon as they have a concern, as time is often of the essence in these situations.

On the evening of April 29, Mission RCMP received another complaint about dangerous driving at a parking lot on London Avenue. A usual contingent of dozens of vehicles had gathered together, however on this occasion, some of the participants trailered a small car to the parking lot, unloaded the car, then proceeded to drive over the car monster-truck-style with a large pickup truck, while someone sat inside the car. This clearly dangerous act earned the driver of the monster truck numerous tickets, and a reminder that a public parking lot is not to be used as a motor sports arena.
