File # 2022-21656

A Kelowna man has received a jail sentence following an arrest for a series of break and enters.

In August of 2022, North Vancouver RCMP received reports of four separate break and enters to apartment buildings and condominium complexes in the Lonsdale Avenue corridor. The suspects targeted both mail rooms and storage lockers in the buildings.

North Vancouver’s Special Response Team took conduct of the investigations, and with the assistance of Kelowna RCMP, identified a suspect believed to be responsible for all four break and enters.

A report to crown counsel was submitted shortly after the arrest and four counts of break and enter were recommended. Curtis David SMITH of Kelowna was charged and in November of 2023, SMITH plead guilty to all 4 counts of break and enter.

He received a 60-day custodial sentence, and a 1-year Probation Order.

The North Vancouver RCMP is committed to intelligence led policing, and this investigation is the latest in a series of police actions aimed at reducing property crimes in North Vancouver, said Constable Mansoor Sahak, Media Relations Officer for the North Vancouver RCMP.

The reality is Police work collaboratively across British Columbia to arrest and stop the victimization of property owners, said Sahak.
